Dead Sea Bath Salts Benefits

After a long day, a nice long soak in a hot bath is just the ticket. Adding bath salts can enhance the experience greatly. Whether you have sore, tired feet from standing all day, or a stiff back from working at your desk, bath salts can help improve the way you feel and ease away the tension.

What are bath salts exactly?

Well, the term bath salts refers to a range of water-soluble, usually inorganic solid products designed to be added to a bath, either to improve cleaning, provide a medical improvement, improve the experience of bathing, or serve as a vehicle for cosmetic agents. They have been developed which mimic the properties of natural mineral baths or hot springs.

You might be surprised to learn that adding a little salt to your water can actually help improve your circulation and reduce any tenderness. They are recommended for people with back pain, arthritis, muscle stiffness or spasms. They also do wonders for sports injuries. They’re great for soreness and aching feet and legs.

Not only do bath salts come in a variety of soothing fragrances, but they offer many other benefits including certain healing properties. Bath salts are very beneficial to the skin. For example, it helps to exfoliate the skin, restore moisture, and enhance skin appearance with restorative minerals. It also helps skin disorders such as eczema, and known to improve poor circulation.

Some people maybe surprised to learn that bath salts open the pores to purify the skin, cleansing away dirt, sweat, and toxins. They aid in the healing of dry skin, making skin softer and giving it a nice glowing effect. In addition, salts can help improve common irritations such as insect bites, minor rashes, and calluses on feet, as well as more serious skin conditions like athlete’s foot and psoriasis. High quality salts may also help improve the appearance of scars.

Also, salts that are made with essential oils offer the added benefit of aromatherapy. Pleasant scents have been shown to induce calmness and promote relaxation. Scented bath salts combine these attributes with other healing properties. The ability to relax and unwind at the end of the day is also the best way to insure sound, restful sleep at night, and bath salts can help with that.

Epsom salt is the most-studied salt and has many effects on the muscles and nervous system, and can provide a variety of benefits to a bather. These salts change the osmotic balance of the water so that less water is absorbed by the skin via osmosis. This reduces the pruning or wrinkling effect of prolonged exposure of skin to fresh water. Magnesium sulfate has been shown to be absorbed through the skin and also has an anti-inflammatory effect.

Some salts such as phosphates have a detergent action which softens calloused skin and aids in exfoliation. Other salts act as water softeners and change the way soap behaves and rinses. A high concentration of salts increase the specific gravity of the water and increase buoyancy, which makes the body feel lighter in the bath. Very high concentrations of salts in water are used in floatation therapy.

Another popular form of salt is the dead sea salt, which is extracted or taken from the Dead Sea. It is a popular and common with bath products including bath salts, salt scrubs, foot scrubs, body wraps, bath bombs, soaps, and a wide variety of other cosmetic products, including makeup. Dead Sea salt is used in bath salts to help treat common skin ailments, including psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.

Other types of salts include Himalayan Salt:

This clean crystal salt ranges in color from sheer pink to dark red, among its many minerals are traces of iron. There is also Mediterranean Sea Salt: The salt from the Mediterranean Sea is a low-moisture, highly mineralized pure white salt.

We also have Organic Sea Salt:

Organic sea salt comes from various locales and is usually light grey in color. It is not processesed or refined, which helps it to retain its vital elements. As a result, its grade is usually coarse. Next there’s Bali Reef Salts: Salts from the Bali Sea are usually sheer grey and porous. The natural dual-drying process used to obtain these salts makes them a good base for absorbing scents and oils. And last but not least.

Pacific Sea Salt:

Similar to the salts of the Mediterranean Sea, these are high-mineral, white salts that are also an economical choice.

Bath salt comes in different grade levels, such as fine, medium, and coarse. The grade is simply a matter of personal preference. If you display your salts, the medium and coarse grades have an especially attractive texture for packaging and displaying. The finer grades are an excellent texture for exfoliating. Bath salt grades also have specific properties that make them suitable for different applications. Salts with fine grade for example are exceptional for scrubs and other applications that require the salts to dissolve quickly. Medium to coarse grained salts are good for bath salts but are more visually appealing than fine grained salts.

The healing power of bath salt was known for ages. It restores natural acidity of skin and makes it more balanced. Furthermore, after laying in a bath with salts, it softens the skin and improves blood circulation. There’s no miracle in these effects. Bath salt salts contain a lot of great components that dissolve in water. All these good things are absorbed into your skin while you lay in a bath. The salts help your body becomes lighter and you can relax easier.

There are so many other wonderful aspects of using bath salts and why it would be good for you. However, you must also be aware that it is not always right or suitable with everyone. If you are allergic to most soap and similar means, then bath salts are not best for you as it may have side effects. Before using salts, you must first find out whether or not your skin is irritated easily when you apply soap to it, especially if it’s scented. Some people may be able to use bath salts that are not scented while others won’t be able to use salts at all. It all depends on your skin.

So lets sum it up. Why use bath salts? Because by adding mineral rich salt to your bath water increases the salinity of the water, which decreases the bacteria count on your skin giving your body’s immune system a break from the daily war against invading microscopic intruders.  The water feels softer against the skin and aids in the shedding of damaged and dead skin while at the same time providing therapeutic nutrients that your skin needs to sustain newly forming healthy skin. Remember it also improves the way you feel, reduces tension, and relaxes the muscles to help you feel nice and refreshed, and lets not forget that it heals the skin as well.

If you know that bath salts won’t be harmful on your skin, then it is encouraged that you try it at least once. You will see and feel the difference almost immediately after soaking in the tub. You can find bath salts in various body and health shops, but you can also try to make your own bath salt. The needed ingredients are sea salt, Epsom salt, a few drops of colorant and a few drops of fragrance oil. Purchased bath salt may contain other additives such as moisturizer which helps skin to stay healthy and smoothing.
